The Centre has so far delivered more than 64.65 crore doses of free COVID-19 vaccine to states and union territories under the direct state procurement category, the Union health ministry said on Thursday. The states and Union Territories still have 4,78,94,030 vaccination doses with them to be administered, it added.
The Union government is committed to accelerating the pace and expanding the scope of COVID-19 vaccination throughout the country, the ministry said in a statement. The vaccination drive has been ramped up through the availability of more vaccines, advanced visibility of vaccine availability to states and UTs for enabling better planning by them and streamlining the vaccine supply chain, it added.
The Central government has been supporting states and union territories with free Covid vaccinations as part of the nationwide vaccination drive. The Union government procures and distributes free of costs to the states and UTs 75% of the vaccinations produced by vaccine makers in the country as part of the COVID-19 vaccination drive.
