Jitin Prasada, former UPA minister quit Indian National Congress on Wednesday citing that he was unable to serve the interests of his people and society while in Congress.
“As for the Congress party, I left because I felt that if one is unable to serve one’s people or protect their interests being in a certain party, it is better to leave. Under the BJP and and the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, I feel that I will be better able to serve my people,” he said.

Terming his exit from Congress and induction into BJP as a fresh chapter, Prasada said that there is only one national party in India. “In the last 8-10 years, I have felt that if there is one party that is truly national, it is the BJP. The other parties are regional but this is a national party,” Prasada said, addressing the media at BJP headquarters.
Walking in the footsteps of his father Jitender Prasada, who contested against Sonia Gandhi for the post of Congress President in 1999, Jitin raised a banner of revolt against his party, quitting ahead of the crucial 2022 Uttar Pradesh elections.
He was Minister of State for Steel, Petroleum and Natural Gas, Road Transport and Education in the UPA since 2008 and was always considered close to Rahul Gandhi.
