4-time Congress MLA from Mariani Constituency Rupjyoti Kurmi resigns as MLA and submits resignation to speaker today.
Kurmi who has a great hold on the tea tribe community has been vocal for some time against the leadership of the Congress party.
He will join BJP on Monday in the presence of Assam CM Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma at Lakhimpur.
Meanwhile, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee today expelled Kurmi from the primary membership of the party citing he has anti-party activities, which have the approval of the All India Congress Committee.
“I’m leaving Congress as High Command in Delhi & Guwahati leaders give priority to elderly leaders only. We’d told them Congress has good chance of coming to power this time & we shouldn’t forge alliance with AIUDF as it would be a mistake. It indeed was.” Kurmi said.
“Congress isn’t listening to its young leaders. That’s why its situation is worsening in all states. I’ll meet Assembly Speaker & tender my resignation….Rahul Gandhi is unable to shoulder leadership, if he’s at the helm party won’t move forward.” he added.
Kurmi was recently chosen as the secretary of the Congress Legislature Party but he refused to accept the post.
