A force for global good called by Narendra Modi, the first-ever QUAD leaders summit in person was held in Washington. The meeting was attended by US President Joe Biden, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrisson and Japanese prime minister Yoshihide Suga.
In a joint statement, the QUAD leaders called for a free and open Indo-Pacific which is also inclusive and resilient. The four nations pledged to donate over 1.2 million doses of Covid vaccines for the QUAD Vaccine initiative. India’s decision to resume exports of Covid 19 vaccines from October this year by them.
The statement calls for decreasing carbon footprints towards global net-zero emissions by 2050 and establishing clean energy supply chains to address climate change. Hundred graduate fellowships to leading science, technology, Engineering and Mathematics graduates have been announced by the QUAD leaders in order to promote innovation and emerging technologies.
