Former President of India Pranab Mukherjee’s son Abhijit Mukherjee joined the Trinamool Congress in Kolkata on Monday. Mukherjee was a former Congress MP. Joining TMC, Mukherjee told the media, “I have joined as a member of the Trinamool Congress today. I came from the Congress and I am joining TMC.” Mr. Mukherjee further told that the Congress party did not give him any position, that’s why he has joined TMC.
“I will work as a soldier, and accordingly will perform the responsibilities given,” he added.
Mukherjee won the 2012 Jangipur Lok Sabha constituency by-election as the seat was vacated by his father Pranab Mukherjee after he was elected as the President of India. He was re-elected from the same constituency in 2014 also. But he lost in 2019 to TMC’s Khqlibur Rahman. Mr. Mukherjee has not given any position yet in TMC.
