Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to chair a meeting with all the mainstream political parties of Jammu and Kashmir in Delhi today. The meeting will begin at 3 pm at his official residence in Delhi.
A total of 14 leaders, including National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah, PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti, People’s Conference leader Sajad Lone and Muzaffar Hussain Baig and Apni Party leader Altaf Bukhari, will attend the meet at the Prime Minister’s residence in Delhi. BJP J&K unit leaders Kavinder Gupta, Nirmal Singh, and Ravinder Singh, and Bhim Singh from J&K Panthers will also attend today’s meet.
Union home minister Amit Shah, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Jammu and Kashmir Lt Governor Manoj Sinha and home secretary would also attend the meeting.
This is the first meeting between the Centre and mainstream parties from Jammu and Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370 and the divisions of the erstwhile state into two union territories in 2019.
As per the national media, key issues like delimitation and assembly elections are likely to be discussed that may pave the way for the political processes in Jammu and Kashmir. The meeting can also discuss a blueprint to begin the political process in the Union Territory.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Police a day before the talks, on Wednesday issued an alert in the region following a series of attacks. The police issued a warning stating that the “anti-national” elements may attempt to “hit soft targets to create a hype”.
