Sikkim Government is to impose a complete ban on packaged mineral water from January 1, 2022, in the entire state.
Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Sing Tamang on Saturday said that the government will impose a total ban on packaged drinking water in the state. On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, while taking part in a cleanliness drive Tamang said that the state is blessed with natural resources and provides fresh and good quality drinking water. He further said that after implementation of a complete ban on people will opt for natural water resources that are healthier than those available in plastic bottles.
The government has given a three months buffer time to deplete the existing stock of mineral water bottles available with the business establishments, he added.
