The Manipur government has started exportation organic black rice to Europe. On Thursday, in a function held at CM’s Secretariat at Imphal, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has flagged off a consignment of one metric ton of organic black rice to Europe.
Organic black rice, locally known as ‘Chak-Hao’ has increasing demand for its nutrition values. Talking to the media, N Biren Singh said that the ‘Chak-Hao’ had got the Geographical Indication (GI) tag and it had good demands from different parts of the country as well. He further said that for the first time, one metric ton of highly nutritious rice variety being exported officially to European countries.
‘Export of organic ginger and pineapple is also being done regularly under the aegis of Manipur Organic Mission Agency (MOMA) of the state horticulture and soil conservation department,” he added.
The Chief Minister said that all necessary support is being extended to the farmers for quantity and quality increase in production of indigenous varieties.
On Thursday, Manipur CM Biren Singh also flagged off the distribution of quality seeds to villagers of different districts affected by the destruction of poppy plantations due to the ‘War on Drugs’ campaign by the government. Under the scheme around 460 hectares of land will be covered.
