Eminent author, Women’s rights activist and poet Kamla Bhasin passes away on Saturday at the age of 75. Bhasin who was suffering from cancer was hospitalised on Friday.
The feminist icon is well known for her works on Feminism, patriarchy and gender. He wrote several books on the issues which were translated to as many as 30 languages.
She also participated in the ‘One Billion Rising’ campaign in South Asia. She was active in many other such movements that were associated with peace, women’s rights, human rights, etc.
She left her job at United Nations in 2002 and founded Sangat, an NGO that works for underprivileged women from rural and tribal communities.
