Assam Congress MLA Sherman Ali Ahmed from Baghbar Constituency has been suspended from the party on Monday. Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Bhupen Borah has suspended Ali for ‘repeatedly violating party discipline.
In an order, APCC stated, “Hon’ble President of APCC Sri Bhupen Kumar Borah has suspended Sri Sherman Ali Ahmed MLA, member ACLP from congress party with immediate effect for repeatedly violating party discipline.”
Earlier, APCC issued a show-cause notice to Ali over his controversial comment on Assam Movement Myrtus.
Ali was arrested on Saturday by Assam Police for his controversial and communal comment from the MLA hostel in Dispur.
The Congress party also suspended Rafiqul Islam, General Secretary of Mandiya Block Congress Committee under Baghbar Constituency for calling ‘Bandh’ against Ali’s arrest by Assam Police.
