The novel prize 2021 in chemistry was announced today. The world’s most prestigious award jointly goes to Benjamin List, Germany, and David MacMillan, USA for the development of asymmetric organic catalysts. Both the scientists have developed new tools for building molecules that helped to make new drugs that are more environmentally friendly.
“Organic catalysts can be used to drive multitudes of chemical reactions,” the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences said in a statement. “Using these reactions, researchers can now more efficiently construct anything from new pharmaceuticals to molecules that can capture light in solar cells.”
