Yogi Adityanath, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, imposed a ban on the sale of liquor and meat in Mathura on Monday.
Speaking at the Krishotsava 2021 at Mathura he said that the officials are directed to make plans for the ban as well as for the engagement of people involved in such activities in some other trade.
He advised that those in the wine and meat trades sell milk to restore the glory of Mathura, which was once famed for producing large amounts of cow milk. Mr. Adityanath also prayed to Lord Krishna for the coronavirus illness to be eradicated.
Meat and alcohol sale was banned at Brindaban and Barasana also in 2017 by Adityanath’s government and both the places were declared as holy pilgrimage places.
