A delegation of the Assam Government led by Border Protection & Development Minister Atul Borah and Minister Ashok Singhal visited Mizoram today. The Assam delegates held peace talks with representatives from Mizoram Government led by Mizoram Home Minister Lalchamliana in Aizol regarding the tensions along the Assam-Mizoram border.
After the talk, in a joint statement, it is said that the governments of Assam and Mizoram welcome and agree to take forward the initiative taken by the Union Home Ministry and CMs of Assam and Mizoram to remove tensions prevailing around the inter-state borders and to find lasting solutions to the disputes through discussions.
Both the governments have agreed to maintain peace in the inter-state border areas and welcomed the development of neutral force by the Union Government in this regard. For this purpose, both the states shall not send their respective forest and police forces for patrolling, domination, enforcement, or for fresh deployment to any of the areas where confrontation and conflict have taken place between the police forces of the two states during recent times, the statement said.
Conveying condolences for the loss of lives on 26th July, the representatives from both sides further agreed to take all necessary measures to promote, preserve and maintain peace and harmony amongst the people of Assam and Mizoram, particularly the people in border areas.
