Tripura became the first State in North East in India to have recorded a case of Covid 19 Delta Plus Variant.
At least 138 of 151 Covid 19 samples sent by Tripura for genome sequencing have tested positive for the Delta plus variant. On Friday evening, State Health Surveillance Officer of Tripura, Dr. Deep Kumar Debbarma said to media that samples were sent to a laboratory in West Bengal for testing.
He said, “Delta Plus Variant was found in 138 out of the 151 samples sent for test. While 10 others have tested positive for Delta variant and three for Alpha Variant.”
In such a situation, the Tripura Government has imposed a total weekend curfew in 13 urban areas with effect from 12 pm on Saturday. The ongoing partial day and night Curfew has also been extended till July 17.
Tripura has recorded 69,550 Covid cases to date. A Central multi-disciplinary medical team has been deputed in the state to deal with the crisis.
