Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reshuffled his Council of Ministers for the first time on Wednesday evening. PM Modi, in his new council, inducted many fresh faces including a record number of women. In the new Cabinet, seven women MPs from BJP and its ally Apna Dal have been included.
Among the new entrance in Modi Cabinet is Lok Sabha MP Meenakshi Lekhi, a well-known lawyer and BJP National Spokesperson. Lekhi has been appointed as Minister of State for the Ministry of External Affairs and Ministry of Culture.
Shobha Karandlaje, BJP MP from Udupi Chikmagalur Lok Sabha Constituency and former Cabinet Minister of Karnataka is also included in the new Cabinet. She has been appointed as Minister of State for the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.
Darshana Vikram Jardosh, MP from Surat is appointed as Minister of State for the Ministry of Textiles, and Ministry of Railways in the new Cabinet of Narendra Modi.
BJP MP from Koderma Loksabha Constituency in Jharkhand, Annapurna Devi has been appointed as Minister of State for the Ministry of Education.
Pratima Bhaumik From Tripura is also included in the new Cabinet. She has been appointed as Minister of State for the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
BJP MP from Dindori, Maharastra, Dr. Bharati Pravin Power is appointed as Minister of State in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
Anupriya Singh Patel, BJP’s ally Apna Dal’s MP from Mirzapur is also included in the Modi cabinet. She has been appointed as Minister of State for the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
There were four women Ministers in Modi Cabinet- Cabinet Ministers Nirmala Sitaraman and Smriti Irani, and Ministers of State Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti and Renuka Singh. After the induction of seven new women Ministers, the total number of women Ministers rose to 11 which is the highest since 2004.
