In Baksa district of Assam, a 50-year-old man was brutally beaten to death on suspicion of witch-hunting.
The tribal man has been identified as Biren Boro. The shocking incident happened at Bogoribari village, near Tamulpur, 80 km from Guwahati.
Till now police have arrested 5 people for investigation. As per the police primary source, on Monday the villagers organised a meeting and accused the man of witchcraft, followed by the murder of the man.
“A case has been registered after receiving a complaint lodged by the victim’s wife. We have so far detained five persons in connection with the case. We suspect that it is a witch-hunting incident. Our investigation is on,” the officer said
The villagers even attacked the police cars when the police lifted Biren Bori into their car. The police Officer of Kumarikata outpost was also injured in the attack.
Due to lack of proper education and awareness, the rural areas of Assam has been witnessing such cases every year. As per official records, between 2001 and 2019 a total number of 161 people were killed in “witch-hunting” and other suspicious incident.
